Interview with Jade
Jade, how did you start your nail artistry career?
When I was growing up, I always knew that I wanted to be my own boss. So, when I decided to leave school after the first term of year 10, I went on to complete an introductory course in nails and beauty while working a 9 to 5 corporate job. Once I finished my beauty studies, I dived into working in a nail salon where I learnt and mastered my craft in artistry and business. While working in the salon, I noticed our (nail) industry needed a makeover, and that’s what fuelled me to be and do better.
That’s really cool to know. Tell us, what do you love about what you do?
As a creative, being in nails and beauty gives me a chance to create every day! Not only do I get to do what I love, but I get to make clients feel great about themselves via my artistry (which is my passion). There’s nothing like that feeling of having a fresh set of nails did, and that ooze of confidence you feel! And that’s what I love about what I do – that feeling you give a client is priceless.
That’s lovely. So, who would be the top 3 people you’d love to do nails for?
This is hard to answer, but I’d love to do Cardi B’s nails. I nearly had the opportunity to do them for her when she visited Australia, but I missed the message (it was New Years Day!) so I would love to do her nails when she comes back. We all know how Cardi B loves long and extravagant nails, so I’d love to test my abilities on her! Another celebrity would be Kylie Jenner because of her far-reaching influence in nails and beauty. Lastly, I would be forever grateful to do Oprah’s nails. Selfishly, to have a chat about her philosophy on life. I admire her so much, and all she has accomplished so that would be a privilege. Oprah’s people, if your reading this, you know who to contact when you’re in Australia next.
And what is your favourite nail trend of all time?
These questions are getting harder, ha! I can’t pick a favourite, but I’d say it’s always best to pick a classic nail design such as French tips, or neutrals. My favourite shape is a long stiletto, because long nails elongate your fingers and give you that feminine touch.
Why is being a disrupter in the nail industry in Australia so important to you?
It’s in my nature to be a little rebellious and to do things the non-traditional way. My mission is to change the stigma behind the nail industry. Gone are the days where nails should be known as a job you do when you have a language barrier. I believe nail artistry is a prosperous and rewarding career to pursue. Doing clients nails is a way to express your creativity. I want to educate people that being a nail artist is a skilled and meticulous craft that should be more acknowledged and respected. It is cool to be a nail artist today – it is an art form! And like all art forms, it takes time to be acknowledged and respected, but I am here to break down and challenge the stigmas.
Why do you want people to join CJ Academy’s revolution?
I want to empower the new generation of nail artists, and by doing this we can encourage a positive shift and change across the nail industry that is very much needed. The revolution of CJ Academy exists because I want to offer nail artists what I wasn’t able to find when I was starting out – a nail artistry education hub who practices what they preach. CJ Academy gives you the ins and outs, do’s and don’t’s of how to be a successful artist and/or salon owner. It will give you the intel of how CJ Artistry turned a small investment into a 7-figure business. Let’s be the change we wish to see in the industry…
What is unique about CJ Academy’s coaching?
Having been in the business for over 15 years, I haven’t seen anyone coaching and mentoring our industry – and CJ Academy will be this for the new generation. CJ Academy will coach artists on the best techniques to use so you can market yourself on social media. CJ Academy is more than teaching you how to apply a set of nails, it will teach you how to run your business and build a successful and game changing brand.
